Silk was born Silk was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Ilkay is the daughter of Peter, an educator and an accomplished actress and playwright. Peter was educated at St. Thomas University. Anna recalls some of the first moments in her life when she went to watch her mother perform in play rehearsals. Silk was a part of a variety of commercials where she was featured when she was young. She earned her Bachelor of Arts was conferred from St. Thomas University, 1997. Theatre St. Thomas was engaged in two of the early stage productions that included Seven Menus (1997) and The Kitchen (1999). Silk moved to Toronto for further development of her acting career in the month of November 1999. She later, in the following decade relocated into Los Angeles, California. She met her soon-to-be spouse, Seth Cooperman, at an acting workshop in Los Angeles, in 2007. The couple got engaged in 2009 and were wed in the civil ceremony on December of that year. They renewed their vows on April 10, 2011 at Fredericton in an Jewish ceremony following her conversion to a Jew.
