Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At the age of 27, he enrolled at National Theatre School of Denmark. He graduated in 1994. In addition to his role in the drama series released internationally as The Killing, he subsequently was a part of two other internationally acclaimed Danish drama series, Those Who Kill and Borgen III. He also played a major part in the BBC drama Sherlock as a the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American TV series House of Cards, he played the president of Russia. In 2018, he was awarded an International Emmy Award for his part as the president of Russia in the Danish television drama Herrens Veje. It was shown in the UK in the year 2019. According to Mikkelsen, he learned English from his older brother by watching Monty Python recordings and watching the comedy sketches.
